Graduating in Medicine in 1957, I undertook training in Psychiatry at Guys/Maudsley hospital London, between 1959 & 1964, my final two years as inaugural research fellow in Child Psychiatry. Between 1979 and 1981 I was the Overseas Senior Registrar in Psychotherapy at the Cassell Hospital (a Therapeutic community), Richmond Surry.

I was subsequently Associate Psychiatrist Royal Children’s Hospital and senior Consultant Psychiatrist Prince Henry’s hospital Melbourne. With the development of the Department of Psychological Medicine Monash University I held the positions of Professorial Associate and consultant Psychiatrist and subsequently Senior Lecturer and Chair of the Centre for Psychodynamic studies until retiring in 2010. Whilst there I developed the Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health for members of the teaching professions.

Clinically I trained and carried out private practice in individual and group psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in Australia, until June 2014 and was appointed Training Analyst in 1972.

In 2000 I became a member of The International Society for the Psychoanalytic study of Organisations (ISPSO) for which I became President, (2012/2013). I am a current International Consultant to the (International) Journal of Organisational and Social Dynamics.

I am currently a member of the Mental Health Tribunal (VIC), emphasising the protection of Human Rights for individuals on compulsory treatment orders under the Mental Health Act. I am also assisting to develop equity in the structure and responsibility among disparate professional members of the tribunal.
