From 1991 till now I am at NPI. In my work as consultant I am talking with people encouraging them the right thing to do, strengthening their capacity to change the organizational environment, to interact with others, by developing themselves. I do this in al kinds of organizations; profit and non-profit. NPI instituut voor Organisatieontwikkeling is an consultancy firm with an developmental approach. We do not write big reports, but help people to catch the fishes by themselves. We were founded in 1954. From 1996 till 2003 I was managing partner and chairman of NPI. I got my professional training as consultant in the NPI.

At ISPSO I hope to get in contact with people with whom I can explore and share knowledge in psychoanalysis and organizational development.

The last four years I am reflecting and writing on the following themes.

What kind of rationality do we need? In the organizational context and in our society people are very strong influenced by the mechanical rationality (“McDonaldization of society” – Ritzer). How can people learn more to rely on their creative rationality. In the mechanical rationality the ‘subjectivity’ is eliminated, in the creative rationality ‘subjectivity’ is at the centre. It is as if people in businessquestions are frightened to ‘use’ their own subjectivity and that of others. In the mean time it plays an major role in what happens or what not happens. For me the hermeneutical approach of psychoanlysis is fruitful to get a better understanding of subjectivity.

The dominant theme in modernity is: control (Giddens). How can we understand these dominant trend from a psychodynamic point of view? How can we relate this to the anxiety for ones own fragility and mortality (Yalom).

I am interested to reflect on the method of free speech as form of knowledge (Bollas) and the application of this concept in consultancy work.

The working of transference and countertransference in teamwork.
